Hungary

The Hungary Residency by Investment Program, commonly referred to as the Hungary Golden Visa, provides an exceptional pathway to securing residency in Europe. This program offers numerous advantages, making it an attractive option for individuals seeking long-term residency in a European country. Among its key highlights, the Hungary Golden Visa is one of the fastest and most cost-effective residency programs available in Europe. Notably, it stands out as the only EU program that permits investors to finalize their real estate purchase after their residency visa application has been approved and granted.

Requirements for the Golden Visa
Fund Investment

To qualify for the Hungary Golden Visa, applicants must meet certain criteria that form the basis of the investment journey. Understanding the associated costs and application process is crucial for participation in Hungary’s Residency by Investment Program.

Investment Options

Starting in 2024, the program offers three distinct investment pathways. Applicants are required to select one of the following options:

  • €250,000: Investment in a Real Estate Investment Fund
  • €500,000: Direct Real Estate Acquisition
  • €1 million: Non-refundable Public Trust Donation
Associated Costs

Starting in 2024, applicants can select from three updated investment options for the Hungarian Golden Visa:

  • €250,000: Investment in a Real Estate Investment Fund
  • €500,000: Direct Real Estate Acquisition
  • €1 million: Non-refundable Public Trust Donation
Eligibility and Requirements

The Hungarian Golden Visa, officially called the “Guest Investor Residence Permit,” provides a long-term residency permit valid for ten years, with the option for unlimited renewals. It can also be upgraded to permanent residency if the applicant resides full-time in Hungary for five years. However, this program is not a citizenship-by-investment scheme, as Hungary does not offer a direct pathway to citizenship. Applicants seeking European citizenship may want to explore other programs with clearer routes, such as those in Portugal or Malta.

Family Applications

Hungary’s Golden Visa program allows applicants to include their spouse and children under 18 years old. For children over 18, they may still be included if they are financially dependent, unmarried, and pursuing education. Parents aged 65 and older can also be added without the need to prove dependency. Additional fees apply for extra dependents. For a tailored family quotation, consult with Oxbridge’s specialists.

Benefits

The program offers several advantages to participants:

  • A swift and efficient route to European residency.
  • Lifetime residency, renewable every ten years.
  • Visa-free travel across the EU Schengen zone.
  • No minimum stay requirements.
  • No tax obligations for non-residents.
  • The freedom to reside in Hungary.
  • Applications processed within approximately 4–8 weeks.
